Hope and healing is something we all long for when we are hurting. I have worked in spiritual care for the past fifteen years and my passion is to see people heal from past wounds and future fears.

My journey started being born and raised in Australia where everything is said to be “she’ll be right mate!”. However, we all know that is not reality. As we go through life, we experience breakups, hardships, sickness, failure, and loneliness. What if we can take these things and turn them into an opportunity for growth? After being diagnosed with cancer in 2019, I thought my dreams and life was over. Why bother when I don’t know whether I’ll make it through or not?

But here I am and here you are also.

Here are a few benefits to counseling:

Improved Mental Health: Counseling provides an effective means of treating mental health conditions and improving emotional well-being. Scientific research has demonstrated the efficacy of counseling in treating depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders. It allows individuals to explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, gain fresh perspectives, and develop coping strategies to manage their challenges effectively. By focusing on affect, expression of emotions, and interpersonal relations, counseling helps individuals develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their patterns of thinking, leading to improved mental and emotional health.

Enhanced Relationships and Communication: Counseling can greatly improve communication skills and relationships. Through therapy, individuals learn effective communication techniques, problem-solving strategies, and conflict resolution skills. It provides a safe and supportive environment where couples and families can address issues, improve understanding, and strengthen their bonds. Couples therapy, for example, can help partners develop healthier communication patterns, resolve conflicts, and rebuild trust, leading to more fulfilling and satisfying relationships.

Increased Self-Empowerment and Coping Skills: Counseling empowers individuals by equipping them with the necessary tools and coping skills to navigate life's challenges. It helps individuals develop a better understanding of themselves, their values, and their goals, leading to increased self-awareness and self-esteem. Therapy provides a supportive space where individuals can explore their strengths, identify areas for personal growth, and learn effective strategies for managing stress, anxiety, and other emotional difficulties. By building resilience and developing adaptive coping mechanisms, individuals can effectively overcome obstacles, make positive changes, and lead more fulfilling lives.

Counseling vs. Coaching
It is important to me that you have clarity about the difference between counseling and coaching so that your needs can be professionally and properly met

Coaching focuses on where you are presently and where you are headed, with a goal of helping you gain clarity about your vision, eliminate obstacles to your success, accelerate the pace of personal growth and achieve results that empower you to live your best life – professionally and personally.

Counseling uses therapeutic modalities to help you gain insight into your past experiences so you can heal from your pain. A simple rule of thumb to know whether you should be coaching or counseling:  If your past is an issue, counseling is your best option.  If your past is simply a fact (regardless of whether the circumstances were difficult or negative), you are probably ready for coaching.
